If you want to take the extra step to conserving water from your plants, there are many drought tolerant plants that will provide an additional pop of color to your lawn as well. California’s hot and dry climate is perfect for drought tolerant plants that require minimal water. For example, the verbena is one of the most colorful and easy to grow plants that blooms in late spring, tolerates drought conditions, and thrives in the heat.

Hello friends!

World Oceans Day is less than one day away and I have so many exciting tips from it to share with you all! The ocean is the largest ecosystem on Earth and contains 97% of the world’s water. Regardless of how far we may live, the ocean is our friend and we are all connected to it in some way. Plastic straws, bottles, and bags fill our ocean because much of the waste we generate is not disposed of properly. Did you know that the accumulation of just one week’s worth of water bottles in the US produces enough bottles to circle the planet five times? That’s a lot of plastic!

The ocean generates over half of the oxygen we breathe and is the planet’s life support system. My friends who live under the water are counting on us to help them make sure they have a safe place to live. Make the change to help save the lives of our oceans and underwater friends. Next time you go to the beach and see plastic lying around, be sure to recycle it! You can also help the ocean by eliminating your usage of straws or making the switch to reusable bottles and bags! By keeping our oceans clean, you are taking a stand to help save the homes of many beloved sea animals such as dolphins, sea turtles, whales, and more!

If we all do our part in becoming guardians of the oceans, we can ensure the waters stay happy and healthy for not only us, but all our underwater friends as well. See you next time!

Wally’s Water Wisdom- May is Water Awareness Month 2018

Hello friends!

It's Water Awareness month and I need your help! Did you know that 97% of the Earth's water is salt water? This leaves us with only 3% of fresh water on Earth. With limited resources available to us, it is important to conserve everything we can. We have no new water--did you know that the water dinosaurs used years and years ago is the same water we have available to us today? Since we have no new water, we must do our part to use water wisely and not waste it. Saving water is something we can all do on a daily basis!

Here are a few tips to help you get started with saving water:

• Turn off the water when brushing your teeth.
• Take shorter showers.
• Always use full loads when using the washing machine.
• Fix leaks immediately.

Do your part in making a change! You can become my water-wise friend and help spread the message! The more people that are aware, the easier water conservation becomes. See you all next time!
